Research Associate- MCG Physiology
Job Summary
This position provides administrative and technical oversight in a cardiorenal research laboratory in the Department of Physiology. Responsibilities include ensuring research protocols are followed; safety guidelines are met; managing laboratory resources; providing teaching and technical oversight to trainees and staff; processing data; presenting findings; assisting the Principal Investigator (PI: Dr. Alison Kriegel) with research applications; and coordinating animal models and records.
Research focuses on molecular changes in hypertension and kidney pathology, and how chronic kidney disease leads to cardiovascular issues in adults and children, using molecular technologies in cell, animal, and human studies.
Responsibilities
- Lab Management: Coordinate research activities, instruct staff and students on techniques.
- Animal Management: Arrange animal models, maintain records, perform procedures like injections and euthanasia, assist with protocol preparation.
- Experiments: Analyze data, plan protocols, develop studies with PI, prepare figures for publication.
- Fiscal Management: Track budgets, interface with vendors.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure safe operations and compliance with guidelines.
- Grant Development: Assist with data for grants, participate in publications.
- Other: Perform incidental duties.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in a relevant field with research experience, or Bachelor's degree with three years' experience and supervisory background.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in research protocols, animal work, and cardiorenal disease.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office; understanding of protocols; background in biology/chemistry; excellent communication skills; ability to maintain confidentiality and work with animals.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days, Monday-Friday. Salary: $45,400-$56,700 annually. Benefits include health insurance, retirement, vacation, etc.
