Research Associate

The laboratory of Dr. Eric Greidinger, Associate Director of the Center for Innate Immunity and Inflammation, studies how innate immunity including STING signaling influence the development and tissue targeting of autoimmune diseases, to develop better therapies for these conditions. He is also investigating the development of anti-self responses in cancer, both to understand and treat paraneoplastic autoimmune conditions and to develop new approaches to cancer therapy. This work seeks to develop novel treatments for diseases for which effective treatments are not currently available. The Greidinger Lab, working closely with the laboratory of Dr. Glen Barber, Director of the Center for Innate Immunity and Inflammation, is seeking a Research Associate to provide administrative and technical support for this research. The Research Associate will perform the following:

  • Supervise and train research staff; manage daily operations of the laboratory, communicate with the PI to ensure that appropriate experiments are being conducted, following approved protocols.
  • Participate in planning and design of research projects following PI Guidance. Execute and manage research projects using murine models, de-identified human samples, molecular biology (including protein and nucleotide expression and purification), immunohistochemistry, Western blot, tissue culture, PCR and flow cytometry. Prepare solutions and culture media; collects, sorts and processes tissue and blood samples. Participate in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies. Monitor, maintain, and validate lab equipment, reagents, and procedures.
  • Collect, analyze and interpret research data; assist with development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques. Perform critical analysis of literature relevant to research being undertaken. Assist in the preparation of research grant proposals, research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents.
  • Inventory, oversee, and (with PI approval) initiate procurement of research materials, supplies, and equipment, while aligning expenses with funding sources.
  • Seek approvals prospectively, monitor, enforce, and report laboratory compliance with safety, privacy, security, ethical and other standards and rules that align with OSHA regulations, with local, state and federal regulations, and with PI guidance.
  • Oversee and coordinate periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; 1 year of relevant experience required with a Bachelor's Degree.

Preferred: Master's degree or greater in an appropriate biological/health science or at least 4 years lab work experience.

Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required

Experience in a biological/health science research capacity is preferred

Requires successful completion of a background check

Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

The Center for Innate Immunity and Inflammation within the OSUCCC-PIIO is taking novel approaches to harness (or restrain) immunity and inflammation in translational approaches at the intersection of oncology and autoimmunity.
