Job Description

We are looking for a highly talented and motivated candidate to design and realise Long-life Solid-State Batteries by intelligent composites with active interfaces. This ongoing collaborative project will run until June 2029.

The focus is on designing composites of nanostructured inorganic solid electrolytes with polymers that retain the high conductivity of the materials, allow for low-cost thin film preparation and yield stable interfaces with electrode materials to achieve solid-state batteries with enhanced rate performance and capacity retention.

Key tasks for the Research Associate in this project will be to cooperate with team members for an effective scalable synthesis, advanced structural and electrochemical characterisation, optimisation of cathode composites and their interfaces with the electrolyte, and integration of functionally intelligent sensors and actuators for achieving high performance solid state pouch cell batteries with long cycle life.

The position will be open from 1 September 2026 initially for two years with optional extension.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree or Master’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Some prior knowledge of electrochemical battery characterisation is expected preferably involving solid state or polymer batteries. This can be achieved by a Final Year or Master project on a related topic.
  • Basic knowledge in impedance spectroscopy, XRD and solid state NMR is desired
  • Ability to work independently and cooperate effectively with the interdisciplinary team in this CRP project is necessary.
  • Good writing and presentation skills are needed

Frequently Asked Questions

🎓What qualifications do I need for this role?

You must hold a PhD degree or a Master’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant work experience in a field such as materials science, chemistry, or engineering. Hands‑on experience with electrochemical battery characterisation – especially solid‑state or polymer batteries – is essential. Familiarity with impedance spectroscopy, XRD, and solid‑state NMR will be advantageous. For more on building a competitive application, see our guide on writing a winning academic CV.

🔬What will I be working on?

You will join a collaborative CRP project focused on designing long‑life solid‑state batteries. Key tasks include developing nanostructured inorganic‑polymer composite electrolytes, optimising cathode‑electrolyte interfaces, and integrating intelligent sensors and actuators. The goal is to produce high‑performance solid‑state pouch cells with improved rate capability and cycling stability. Learn more about research careers at Research Associate positions.

📍Where is the position located?

The role is based at the Kent Ridge Campus of the National University of Singapore (NUS), one of Asia’s leading research universities. You will work in a vibrant interdisciplinary environment with access to state‑of‑the‑art facilities for electrochemical testing, spectroscopy, and thin‑film processing.

⏳How long is the contract?

The appointment begins on 1 September 2026 and runs initially for two years with the possibility of an optional extension. The project itself continues until June 2029, so renewal is likely for strong performers. This is a great opportunity to build a solid research profile; read about thriving in a research role.

📝How do I apply?

Applications are accepted exclusively through the official portal. Use the “Apply now” link in the job posting (Req ID: 33961).
