Job Description: Syracuse University is seeking one motivated Research Associate with a background in optical engineering, laser optics, and photo-polymerization methods. The work, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, will be directed by Prof. Pranav Soman. The Research Associate will work in Soman group located within the BioInspired Institute, which offers world class facilities and a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment where engineers, biologists, chemists, and material scientists collaborate with clinicians from SUNY Upstate Medical University to address high-impact challenges in the bioscience community.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience: Ph.D. (or ABD) and/or appropriate graduate level coursework and experience required. Requires substantial research experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Programming Languages: C++, Python, Java, JavaScript. Software & Tools: MATLAB, LabVIEW, MS Office Suite. Proficient in operating ultrafast femtosecond lasers and digital micromirror devices. Expertise in cell culture techniques and microfluidic device handling. Experience with Confocal Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM).
Responsibilities: Develop new hardware, instrumentation, and associated materials suitable for advanced 3D printing techniques, particularly two-photon and vat photopolymerization. Contribute to the conception, design, and execution of research projects. Pursue independent research interests while collaborating with scientists across diverse disciplines under minimal supervision from the PI. Excellent English verbal and written communication skills. Publish in peer-reviewed journals, present findings at conferences, and write proposals.
