Research Associate - Vascular Biology Center
Job Summary
The Research Associate performs advanced administrative and technical work in support of on-going research projects: Perform experiments in molecular/cell biology including DNA, RNA, protein purification, DNA, RNA, protein characterization by PCR, qRT-PCR, and Western Blotting, cell line culture and primary cardiomyocyte culture, transformation and transfection, and molecular cloning; Assist with mouse colony management, breeding, inventory update, and genotyping; Mouse cardiac physio pathological characterization: Echocardiography, tissue collection, and histopathology.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
- Mouse colony management, breeding, inventory update, and genotyping.
- Molecular biology assays of cultured cells and tissue: Western blot, qRT-PCR.
- Tissue sectioning and histology techniques.
- Mouse echocardiography.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong research background in transcriptional DNA/RNA using multiple experimental techniques including cell culture, RNA analysis, chromatin immunoprecipitation, performing mouse breeding, genotyping, and routine experiments such as cloning, western blot, immunoprecipitation, and immunohistochemistry analyses.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to maintain confidentiality; Willingness and ability to work with research animals; Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required). Pay Band: B8. Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position. Recruitment Period: Until Filled.
