The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

The Social Sciences Division at the University of Oxford is seeking a motivated and creative Research Communications Assistant to join our Research, Impact and Engagement (RIE) Team. This part-time (0.4 - 0.5 FTE) role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with strong writing skills, an eye for detail, and an interest in social sciences research and its impact on the world.

About the Role

Reporting to the Research Communications Officer and working as part of a dynamic and collaborative team, you will help raise the profile of the Division’s research by developing engaging content for a range of audiences and channels. Working closely with colleagues across departments, you will help develop, schedule and distribute content, ensure consistent branding, maintain mailing lists, and evaluate communications activity. You will also act as a point of contact for the team, managing enquiries and coordinating information from a wide range of contributors.

About You

  • Educated to A-level or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrable experience of communications activities, both print and digital
  • Excellent writing skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders
  • Organisation and administrative skills
  • Competent using a range of computer-based and online applications
  • Able to organise own workload and work to deadlines
  • Demonstrated awareness of the role of AI and digital developments in communications today

You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

For queries about the role, contact: recruitment@socsci.ox.ac.uk. For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Rachael Rees (Rachael.rees@socsci.ox.ac.uk).

The closing date for applications is midday on Monday 12 January 2026.

Interviews will take place during week commencing 26 January 2026 and will be face to face.
