Department Information
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Indiana University (IU) and IU Health Physicians is comprised of over 200 individuals working together to achieve success in fulfilling our mission. The department has over 95 faculty members with a primary appointment in pathology, 65 of whom are dually employed pathologists and PhD clinical scientists.
Job Summary
The Research Analyst is part of a computational team and performs quantitative and qualitative data analysis, while following established research techniques (including but not limited to machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and image analysis).
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Performs moderately complex experiments while following research techniques and procedures
- Develops procedures and protocols in collaboration with leadership
- Prepares research reports or analyses for projects
- Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed
- May provide guidance and support to junior-level staff in laboratory operations
- Manages the organization, quality control, and curation of research data
- Manages preparation, application, extension, and benchmarking of analysis/processing pipelines for digitized tissue sections
- Performs analysis of data obtained from application of image processing algorithms for clinical research studies
- Performs collection, quality control, and presentation of results to an audience of diverse computational and clinical background
- Consults with clinical and research faculty, research staff, and postdocs to facilitate research project evaluations and design
- May perform additional duties as assigned
General Responsibilities
- Performs data collection, data analysis, data management, literature research, and technical writing in support of research project(s); performs quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
- Consults with faculty researchers and research staff and provides input on research project evaluations and research project designs
- Writes various technical reports, journal articles, and/or develops presentations to disseminate and share research findings
- Reviews and performs various analyses to ensures quality assurance of research findings (data quality, reports, etc.)
- Researches, reviews, and stays up to date on related research project reports and/or publications
- Represents the department with regard to related research and participates in professional development activities and programs
- Mentors and/or provides guidance to students, faculty, or other staff working on research project(s) through training in related aspects of research techniques and analysis as needed; may provide daily oversight to less experienced staff or student researchers
- Provides additional research project support as needed

EDUCATION
Required
Master's degree (preferably in a research-oriented field such as statistics, public health/policy analysis, etc.)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
1 year of experience in related field.
Experience with image analysis and deep learning

Ability to disseminate knowledge of research findings through presentations
Demonstrated experience in Unix platform
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.
