Research Engineer (Developing and Integrating ML)
Job Description
The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department of National University of Singapore (NUS) is in search of candidate for a research engineer position to support applied AI research in failure analysis and fault isolation. The successful candidate will focus on developing and integrating machine learning–guided failure analysis and diagnostic capabilities for hybrid electronics. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of semiconductor technology, with close collaboration across industry partners and academic researchers.
Responsibilities will involve:
1. Research & Development
a. Design and develop algorithms for defect detection, classification, and failure analysis.
b. Prototype new diagnostic approaches leveraging applied AI.
2. System Integration
a. Implement and integrate ML models into existing failure analysis workflows.
b. Develop software modules that interface with diagnostic instruments and test platforms.
c. Ensure compatibility, scalability, and robustness of integrated solutions.
3. Data Analysis & Reporting
a. Collect, preprocess, and analyze experimental and simulation data to identify patterns of faults.
b. Validate AI-driven predictions against empirical results.
c. Prepare technical reports, visualizations, and presentations for internal stakeholders.
4. Project Management & Collaboration
a. Coordinate research milestones in alignment with project objectives and timelines.
5. Innovation & Intellectual Property
a. Contribute to patent filings, technology disclosures, and commercialization efforts.
6. Assist in equipment purchase, commissioning, and ownership.
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Material Science or its equivalent from a reputable University/Institute is preferred, or equivalent related experience.
- Candidate with experience in microelectronic research, characterisation, metrology, electrical testing, FA and strong in data analysis will have advantage. Knowledge of AI/ML/DL development and ANSYS/TCAD modelling.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Motivated and possesses effective communication skills including writing and presenting.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate within a diverse team.
- Open to Fixed Term Contract.
