About Division of Integrative Systems and Design

The Division aspires to nurture a new generation of innovators who can work across multiple disciplines and create disruptive innovations. The vision of ISD is to 1) provide state-of-the-art project-based experiential learning in education and 2) be a cradle for nurturing innovators and researchers with a design and system thinking mindset as well as an entrepreneurial spirit. The Division provides comprehensive teaching and research programs in integrated design and systems thinking. The academic degrees offered by ISD are a BSc in Innovation, Design and Technology, a MSc in Technology Leadership & Entrepreneurship, a MPhil degree in Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a PhD and MPhil programs in Integrative Systems and Design. We are expanding rapidly and looking to broaden into disciplines such as sports, marine technology and medical technology.

We are seeking a Research Engineer to support technology innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives for the TIE (Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship) and TLE (Technology, Leadership and Entrepreneurship) programs. This role focuses on guiding multidisciplinary development projects with strong commercialization potential and facilitating knowledge transfer across teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee TIE, TLE projects from concept to implementation.
• Guide development and knowledge transfer projects, particularly those with entrepreneurial and commercialization intent.
• Support interdisciplinary teams working across hardware and software domains.
• Ensure effective project planning, execution, and delivery across multiple concurrent initiatives.
• Contribute to a collaborative ecosystem involving students, researchers, and industry partners.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD degree with at least 2 years’ post-qualification experience in R&D or equivalent; or
• MPhil/MSc degree with at least 5 years’ post-qualification experience in R&D or equivalent
• Experience in academic or research environments.
• Familiarity with experiential learning models.
• Knowledge of ergonomics and CMF (color, material, finish/feel) considerations in product design.

Requirements

• Broad product management experience across the full lifecycle of consumer product design and development.
• Technical exposure to embedded systems, mechanical and mechatronics design, robotics and control systems, and software development.
• Strong project and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple diverse projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to work in structured, deadline-driven environments.
