Research engineer for Ellenberg lab

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled research engineer to join the newly established laboratory of Prof. Jan Ellenberg at Karolinska Institutet and SciLifeLab, Stockholm, Sweden. Our research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying cell division and chromatin organization in mouse and human cells. We employ super‑resolution microscopy and quantitative live-cell imaging using diverse fluorescent reporters in cultured cells and early embryos. These experimental approaches are integrated with advanced image analysis and computational modelling.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative experimental research within a dynamic and collaborative environment, advancing high-impact studies at the forefront of molecular biology and medicine.

Your mission

As a research engineer, you will contribute to the overall operation of the laboratory, including cell line maintenance, management of reagent stocks, database administration, and equipment maintenance. You will also participate in the evaluation and implementation of new tools and protocols, and assist in the training of new group members.

Your profile

Eligibility for employment as a research engineer requires a Master’s degree (M.Sc.), Ph.D., or equivalent foreign degree.

Required qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in mammalian cell culture and broad wet‑lab expertise, including Western blotting, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR and qPCR, and basic immunofluorescence imaging
  • Experience in genetic engineering and genome editing (e.g. CRISPR).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently drive short‑term scientific projects
  • Experience in laboratory coordination or management
  • Strong collaborative and communication skills combined with a structured, detail-oriented working style
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)

Meritorious for the position:

  • Experience with mouse work and holding FELASA A and/or C certificate
  • Experience in oocyte and embryo handling and microinjection is a strong advantage
  • Familiarity with systems and administrative processes at Karolinska Institutet and/or SciLifeLab
  • Knowledge of Swedish is not required but considered as advantage
