Research Engineer (Process Systems)
Job Description
Research Engineer position in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at National University of Singapore (NUS). With a strong focus on industrial projects, we are developing our exciting technologies beyond the lab scale. We are seeking a talented and experienced individual with a background in chemical engineering and electrochemistry to join us.
As a Research Engineer, you will contribute to our industry projects focusing on scaling up our electro-metallurgical battery recycling technologies from lab to pilot scale. Main activities include
- Engineering design, Heat & Mass balances, equipment selection and sizing calculations and flowsheet development (PFD, P&IDs) for scale up systems.
- Support testing and optimization of small scale and pilot scale systems, including troubleshooting of process.
- Document all process development, testing, and optimization efforts, and contribute to technical reports and presentations.
- Liaising with suppliers and contractors for equipment procurement and setting up scale up systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Chemical engineering, Metallurgical engineering, Electrochemical engineering, Chemistry or other relevant fields.
- 1-3 yrs experience in metals extraction (Li, Ni, Co, Mn, Cu) from primary ore, secondary sources (waste, tailings), downstream processing and Electrochemical processes is preferred.
- Prior hands-on experience in process development and piloting new technologies is desired. Above 5 yrs experience will be considered as a senior role to lead pilot scale operations.
- Good knowledge of process safety (HAZOP, PHA).
- Strong analytical skills and experience in data analysis and interpretation.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
