Research Engineer (Quantum Technologies)
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Engineer to join our growing team working on diamond quantum imaging with NV centers. This role is central to developing cutting-edge platforms, integrating imaging hardware and software with simulations of NV physics. The successful candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment alongside postdocs, PhD students, and undergraduates, contributing to the build-up phase of an ambitious research lab.
Key Responsibilities
- Widefield & scanning probe development: Design and implement experimental platforms for diamond quantum imaging using NV centers.
- Software & hardware integration: Develop and synchronize pulse sequence control systems across hardware and software layers.
- NV physics simulations: Model spin and optical properties of NV centers to guide experiments and interpret results.
- Team collaboration: Work closely with postdocs, PhD students, and undergraduates in a multidisciplinary research environment.
- Cross-disciplinary exploration: Engage with related fields such as quantum materials, magnetism, fusion, and integrated circuits to identify novel sensing solutions.
What We Offer
- Next-generation quantum sensing: Opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge technologies using NV centers in diamond.
- Hands-on lab building: A rare chance to be part of the early phase of setting up a laboratory, giving you visibility into every aspect of the research ecosystem.
- Cross-disciplinary exposure: Work across diverse fields including quantum materials, magnetism, fusion, and integrated circuits to develop innovative sensing solutions.
- Collaborative environment: Join a dynamic team of postdocs, PhD students, and undergraduates, with mentorship and knowledge-sharing at all levels.
- Professional growth: Develop both technical expertise and interdisciplinary problem-solving skills in a rapidly evolving research program.
Qualifications
- Min a bachelor’s degree with strong background in quantum physics, optics, or condensed matter physics.
- Some experience with experimental platforms and instrumentation development.
- Proficiency in programming for experimental control (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB).
- Familiarity with spin dynamics simulations and optical modeling is advantageous, but not strictly required.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a diverse team.
- Dynamic, adaptable, and eager to learn in a rapidly evolving research environment.
- Open to Fixed Term Contract.
