General Description
PREP Research Associate
This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST recognizes that its research staff may wish to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest, thus requires that such institutions must be the recipient of a PREP award. The PREP program requires staff from a wide range of backgrounds to work on scientific research in many areas. Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration.
Research Title:Staff Scientist
The work will entail:
Serve as an immunologist leading projects for the NIST Quantitative Flow Cytometry Program. Support the NIST Quantitative Flow Cytometry Program working with the flow cytometry team and engaging with stakeholders to develop and characterize measurement methods and reference materials underpinning advanced cell manufacturing, immunotherapy, regenerative medicine, and disease diagnosis and prevention.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Plan and conduct research to aid in the reliable characterization of viral and non-viral gene delivery systems using different flow cytometer platforms and other orthogonal methods.
- develop wet-lab procedures for new quantitative measurements of gene delivery systems and their applications in health and biosciences
- Support the development of functional characterization methods for gene delivery systems in 2D and 3D culture systems and generation of high-quality datasets enabling AI/ML algorithm development.
- Engage stakeholders to and identify opportunities for assay development and validation, control material and standards development.
- Keep accurate and organized electronic records.
- Present results of the work in the form of reports, manuscripts, oral presentations.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Master's degree in Immunology, Biology, Microbiology or a related field.
- 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in immunology, microbiology, and mammalian cell culture
- Proficiency in flow cytometry.
- Familiarity with nano-bioparticle counting methods and gene transduction assays.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
