About the Role

We are seeking a Research Fellow for a maximum of 36 months, with a reduction up to a max 31 months dependant on the starting salary.

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position in the Mathematics Department at the University of Warwick, working with Professor Matt Keeling and Professor Mike Tildesley as part of the Zeeman (SBIDER) institute.

The work is funded by DEFRA as part of an EEID (Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases) collaboration between Colorado State University, Warwick University, Edinburgh University and Linköping University.

Over the last decade we have seen a worrying spread of H5N1 influenza from wild birds into a number of mammalian species including dairy cattle in the USA; this large reservoir of infection has substantial implications for both human and animal health.

Using a range of modelling and statistical approaches, the successful candidate will consider the historic spread of H5N1 in the US dairy industry and project into the future for both the US and UK cattle industry. Work will also consider the implications for human infection and the impacts of different control options. This project gives the candidate an excellent opportunity to join an international network of experienced researchers and to work on an area of one-health with major policy implications.

The successful candidate will join the Zeeman (SBIDER) Institute, School of Life Sciences and Mathematics Institute at Warwick University.

We and the wider University of Warwick environment offer substantial opportunities for professional development including regular opportunities to attend international conferences.

About You

We are seeking an individual with expertise in epidemiological modelling, though we also welcome applications from those with strong quantitative skills and an interest in public health and veterinary epidemiology. Applicants should be proficient in model development, programming, and matching models to data.

For details on the experience and skills required, please refer to the job description as a PDF below.

Upon receipt of evidence confirming the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow, at the lowest spinal point of grade 6 (£35,608 per annum).
