The Seo Lab has NIH-funded postdoctoral fellow positions to study molecular mechanisms of chronic inflammatory diseases (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease or metabolic disorders). 

We study questions at multiple levels using genetically modified mouse models, preclinical mouse models, primary organoids, single-cell RNA-seq, proteomics, lipidomics, metallomics, standard molecular biology/cell biology techniques, and pathology/imaging.

The Seo Lab is located in the University of Michigan School of Public Health, within a 5-minute walk of the Medical School and in the central campus of the University of Michigan. The Seo Lab is also affiliated with the Neuroscience Graduate Program (NGP) at UM Medical School, providing a highly supportive and diverse research environment and excellent career development opportunities for postdoctoral fellows.

Through independent project leadership and close mentoring, fellows strengthen skills in study design, execution, and manuscript/presentation development. We actively support high-impact publications, conference presentations, and fellowship/career award applications. 

  • Conduct a laboratory project of one's own:Develop and manage experiments, including determining suitable methods. Interpret and perform complex data analysis and assess experimental outcomes. Develop and maintain a high level of expertise through current scientific literature.
  • Enhance the laboratory's repertoire of techniques:Develop or import innovative techniques and experimental systems to meet research program goals, particularly as related to our neuroimmunology work.
  • Scientific writing and project development:Prepare manuscripts for publication and research findings for presentation at scientific meetings and conferences. Write grant applications.
  • Collaborative interactions:Develop and foster relationships with partners in academia and industry. Train and mentor other members of the laboratory.
  • Ph.D. in life science areas.
  • High productivity in publication record (quality and quantity).
  • Strong molecular biology and experimental design skills; ability to execute projects independently.
  • Willingness to work in a regulated research environment (biosafety and/or animal research requirements).

In vivo research experience with rodents.

  • Full-time.
  • Laboratory will be located in the Biomedical Sciences Research Building (BSRB) on the University of Michigan Medical Campus.
  • Primarily onsite due to wet-lab, mouse, and imaging work; limited hybrid flexibility may be possible for analysis/writing based on unit policy and research needs.
