Research Fellow (Cancer Science Institute)

Job Description

The ADJ Laboratory, led by Dr. Anand Jeyasekharan at the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore, focuses on understanding how the immune system recognizes cancer cells following treatment with DNA-damaging chemotherapy. Our ultimate goal is to leverage this knowledge to design rational immunotherapy–chemotherapy combinations for cancer treatment.

Our research integrates both fundamental molecular and cellular biology and translational approaches using clinical samples, with a particular emphasis on lymphomas. The lab maintains strong collaborations with the NUH Lymphoma Team, as well as international research and industry partners, to translate discoveries into therapeutic strategies and biomarker development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct experiments to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which DNA damage influences immune activation in cancer cells.
  • Perform assays related to DNA repair, immunogenic cell death, and cytosolic nucleic acid sensing.
  • Utilize molecular and cellular biology techniques such as cloning, qPCR, immunoblotting, microscopy, and flow cytometry.
  • Conduct in-vitro and ex-vivo studies using cancer cell lines and patient-derived samples.
  • Analyze data, prepare research manuscripts, and present findings at internal and external scientific meetings.
  • Collaborate closely with clinical and industry partners to validate findings in clinical samples and contribute to biomarker development.
  • Supervise and mentor junior researchers, graduate students, and medical trainees.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, Immunology, or a closely related field.
  • Strong research background in DNA damage response, cellular signaling, or tumour immunology.
  • Hands-on experience with core molecular and cellular biology techniques.
  • Proven ability to design and execute independent research, analyze data, and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with genotoxic chemotherapy models or immune activation assays.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for pathway or biomarker analysis.
  • Exposure to translational or clinical research collaborations.
