Job Description

The Signature Research Programme in Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (“CVMD”) houses state-of-the-art technologies for basic studies and translation research on metabolic adaptations in cells, rodent models, and human patients, and undertakes translational and clinical research in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

The Adaptive Metabolism Laboratory, headed by Dr Anand Sharma, is seeking a highly motivated candidate(s) with extensive experience in metabolic studies using mouse models and cell-based systems, including primary cells, to join the team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing research program in a collaborative, dynamic environment at Duke-NUS. Our research focuses on adaptive metabolism and its role in human disease, with particular interest in adipose biology, futile cycles, metabolic flexibility, energy conservation, and systemic metabolic regulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently carry out the design and execution of experimental research required by the research component of the project.
  • Perform in vitro and in vivo experiments including imaging and viral/drug delivery.
  • Write and review research papers, present research outcomes, conceptualise new ideas and develop plans for independent research which could have a considerable influence and impact on the relevant field attracting research funding.
  • Analyse and interpret data, maintain accurate research records, and ensure data quality, validity, and reliability.
  • Provide support for external grant/protocol development, study design and management of research activities.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate / medical students and research assistants.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.

Job Requirements

  • PhD and/or post-graduate medical degree with at least 3 years’ relevant research experience and training. Entry level candidates may also be considered.
  • Demonstrated expertise in working with adipose tissue, liver, or skeletal muscle, with strong knowledge and hands-on experience in rodent handling, metabolic studies, molecular biology, and biochemistry.
  • Experience in multi-omics data analysis and proficiency in relevant bioinformatics tools and approaches are encouraged to apply.
  • Hands-on experience in NGS library preparation and data analysis.
  • Proven track record in the form of high impact publications.
  • Demonstrated capability of research independence progressively.
  • Strong writing and critical thinking skills, as well as good communication and presentation skills.
