Job Description

About the Team

The NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity operates as a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary research team led by Prof Andrea B. Maier. Each research project is structured with a Research Fellow as the scientific lead, supported by a Head of Research Operations who works closely with you on day-to-day research activities, and a Research Assistant to support execution. As a Research Fellow, you will lead your primary research project while also contributing your domain expertise to other ongoing studies where relevant. The broader team includes a Head of Partnerships, a procurement specialist, and a communications lead who support the team across institutional relationships, operational logistics, and scientific visibility.

About the Role

The NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity seeks a Research Fellow (post-doc) with a strong epidemiological background. The successful candidate will lead population-level ageing research within our team, leveraging large longitudinal datasets to identify determinants of healthy longevity and generate evidence to inform the design of interventional clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead epidemiological analyses using large longitudinal cohort datasets to identify biological, clinical, lifestyle, and social determinants of healthy ageing
  • Design and conduct observational studies and secondary data analyses in collaboration with the clinical trial team
  • Develop and apply statistical models for ageing outcomes including biological age clocks, frailty indices, and multisystem ageing trajectories
  • Contribute to the translation of epidemiological findings into clinical trial hypotheses and protocol design
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with national and international epidemiological networks and cohort studies
  • Lead and contribute to high-impact publications and grant applications in ageing epidemiology
  • Supervise research staff and students involved in data analysis and epidemiological research

Qualifications

  • PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in ageing epidemiology, longitudinal cohort research, or population health
  • Advanced statistical skills including survival analysis, mixed models, and causal inference methods
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools including R, SPSS, Python, Stata, or equivalent; experience with large-scale human datasets and data linkage is expected
  • Scientific writing is a core requirement: the candidate must have demonstrated experience leading the writing and submission of peer-reviewed manuscripts
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed epidemiology or ageing journals
  • Interest in translating population-level findings into clinical trial design and precision medicine

📊What statistical and data analysis skills are essential for this epidemiology postdoc?

The Research Fellow will lead epidemiological analyses using large longitudinal cohort datasets, so advanced skills in survival analysis, mixed models, and causal inference methods are required. Proficiency in R, SPSS, Python, or Stata is expected, along with experience managing large-scale human datasets and data linkage. The role also involves developing statistical models for biological age clocks, frailty indices, and multisystem ageing trajectories. For more on thriving in a postdoc, see postdoctoral success tips and what is a Research Fellow?.

🔬What research areas will this Research Fellow focus on at NUS?

The role centres on epidemiology of ageing and healthy longevity, using population-level data to identify biological, clinical, lifestyle, and social determinants of healthy ageing. The Research Fellow will develop and apply models for biological age clocks, frailty indices, and multisystem ageing trajectories, and translate findings into interventional clinical trial hypotheses. This work aligns with Singapore ageing research such as the SMU Longevity Institute launch and the Duke-NUS ageing conference: SMU Longevity Institute launch and Duke-NUS ageing conference.

📝How can I apply for the NUS Research Fellow (Epidemiology of Ageing) position?

To apply, prepare an academic CV highlighting your PhD in Epidemiology/Public Health/Biostatistics, statistical expertise in R, SPSS, Python, or Stata, and peer-reviewed publications. The application closing date is 25 October 2026. Emphasise experience with longitudinal cohort datasets and translational research.
