Job Descriptions

This position focuses on physics-based modelling of hydrodynamics, turbulent mixing, and nutrient transport in fish farms. The research forms part of an interdisciplinary programme integrating hydrodynamics, microbial technologies, and AI-driven lifecycle management for sustainable aquaculture.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Develop hydrodynamic models of fish cages subjected to waves and currents
  • Simulate turbulence-driven mixing, oxygen distribution, and nutrient/waste transport in aquaculture environments
  • Conduct field measurements in coastal fish farms using instruments such as ADCP, ADV, water quality sensors, and underwater cameras
  • Analyse and integrate field observations into predictive physical models
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including microbiology and AI researchers within the programme

Job Requirements

  • Possess a PhD in Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and turbulence modelling (e.g., RANS, LES, or equivalent approaches).
  • Experience in environmental flow modelling, hydrodynamics, or coastal processes
  • Prior experience with aquaculture systems, fish cage hydrodynamics, or net-pen flows is advantageous.
  • Ability to conduct field measurements and offshore deployments.
  • Strong publication record and ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Open to fixed-term contract.
