Join the Theoretical and Computational Quantum Chemistry Group at the University of Melbourne as a Research Fellow. You'll play a pivotal role in an industry-funded project aimed at establishing a workflow for high-throughput generation of accurate ab initio reference benchmarks. This exciting opportunity will allow you to contribute to innovative research, collaborate with an industry partner, and publish your findings in academic journals. You'll work under the supervision of Associate Professor Lars Goerigk, a leader in the field, and gain invaluable experience in a supportive and dynamic research environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop Automated Workflows: Utilise Python scripting (or equivalent) to automate job preparation, submission, analysis, and visualisation for high-throughput quantum chemistry calculations.
- Conduct Accurate Calculations: Perform accurate wavefunction calculations on high-performance computer clusters to generate ab initio reference benchmarks.
- Collaborate and Publish: Work closely with the industry partner, analyse data, and contribute to the preparation of research publications and grant applications.
- Supervise Students: Participate in the supervision and mentoring of research students within the Goerigk research group.
- Contribute to Research: Conduct internationally competitive research in theoretical quantum chemistry, resulting in publications in highly reputable journals.
You may be a great fit if: You are a dedicated researcher with a strong background in quantum chemistry, possessing expertise in theory and application, as well as a commitment to conducting accurate wavefunction calculations on high-performance computing clusters.
You may also:
- Possess a PhD (or near completion) in Theoretical Quantum Chemistry or a related discipline.
- Have experience in developing and/or applying quantum-chemical wavefunction methods to molecular systems.
- Demonstrate an aptitude for research with a sound publication record commensurate with experience.
- Possess excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in English.
- Exhibit strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and complete projects.
- Have expertise in machine learning and/or programming (highly desirable).
