Location:LondonSalary:£45,728 to £51,872 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting), Grade 6Hours:Full TimeContract Type:Fixed-Term/ContractPlaced On:9th February 2026Closes:22nd February 2026Job Ref:EPH-EPED-2025-17

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.

We’re seeking an enthusiastic mathematical modeller interested in learning new skills and collaborating with colleagues from diverse epidemiological backgrounds to advance research on health inequalities in England.

The post-holder will join a supportive team using OpenSAFELY to analyse linked EHR data. This project explores socioeconomic and ethnic inequalities in respiratory virus transmission and their impact on GP services in winter and whether these pressures are evenly distributed. A key focus is the role of vaccination in reducing these pressures.

The post-holder will extend existing influenza, Covid-19, and RSV transmission models stratified by socioeconomic status and ethnicity, fitting models to GP-level infection outcomes to estimate effects of differences in vaccination coverage between strata on health impact from these infections. They will also compare the impact of different vaccination strategies and assess their cost-effectiveness.

The team includes Prof Rosalind Eggo, Dr Edwin van Leeuwen, epidemiologists, modellers, statisticians and data scientists across LSHTM, QMUL, Bristol, and Oxford, offering excellent opportunities for publication, collaboration, and involvement in future grants and public health outputs.

The post-holder must have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic and relevant experience in designing and implementing transmission models. Further particulars are included in the job description.

The post is full-time, 1.0 FTE and fixed-term until 30 April 2027. The post is funded by NIHR, and available from 01 May 2026.

The salary will be on the LSHTM scale, Grade 6 in the range £45,728-£51,872 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro-rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.

Applications should be made by clicking the 'Apply' button above. Online applications will be accepted by the automated system until 10pm of the closing date. Any queries regarding the application process may be addressed to jobs@lshtm.ac.uk.

The supporting statement section should set out how your qualifications, experience and training meet each of the selection criteria. Please provide one or more paragraphs addressing each criterion. The supporting statement is an essential part of the selection process and failure to provide this information will mean that the application will not be considered. An answer to any of the criteria such as "Please see attached CV" will not be considered acceptable.

Please note that if you are shortlisted and are unable to attend on the interview date it may not be possible to offer you an alternative date.
