About This Opportunity

This position is linked to the Australian Composites Manufacturing CRC project ‘Standardising in-Field Manufacture of Composite Repairs to Steel Structures’. In this project you will investigate the capabilities of PAUT and MAUT NDT techniques to characterise damage in composite repairs due to environmental degradation and mechanical loading. This research requires deep understanding of analytical and experimental ultrasonic NDT methods, demonstrated knowledge in advanced signal processing techniques and good understanding of emerging machine learning methodologies used in NDE. You will work in close collaboration with project partners at the University of Western Australia and Fuze Solutions.

The successful candidate is expected to prepare research reports, to publish research outcomes in reputable journals, and carry out occasional administrative support duties. The candidate is also encouraged to help pursue funding opportunities for the long-term continuation of this line of research. Additionally, the position requires supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research students.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Research: Determine the capabilities of PAUT and MAUT to detect and characterise damage in composite repairs, collaborate with the CRC ACM project team, produce high-quality research outputs, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilise best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure the ethical conduct of research.
  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

This is a research focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance.
