Energy Studies Institute
The Energy Studies Institute (ESI) is a research institute in the National University of Singapore seeking to advance the understanding of energy policy issues by conducting independent research and analysis. We are looking for researchers to join a multi-disciplinary team carrying out research projects on a range of energy issues that are of concern to Singapore and the region.
ESI has a vacancy for a Research Fellow in the fields of energy economics, applied economic modelling, maritime and energy transition, climate policy, or other related quantitative research areas.
Job Description
- Develop and contribute to quantitative and policy research on the economic implications and opportunities associated with energy transition and maritime decarbonization.
- Conduct data collection and analysis on maritime activity, fuels and emissions; undertake ecosystem and industry mapping, literature and policy review, and stakeholder engagement; identify relevant capability and resource gaps where appropriate.
- Apply input-output (IO) analysis and related quantitative methods to assess economic or industry impacts (e.g., value-added, GDP, employment and market size) under different scenarios, including those related to maritime decarbonization.
- Produce policy reports and academic publications, and contribute to research proposals, collaborations and dissemination activities.
- Carry out administrative tasks, including the organising of seminars, workshops and other relevant activities.
Job Requirements
- Possess a PhD degree in economics, energy or environmental economics, management science, or other related quantitative research fields.
- At least 2 years of relevant research experience in one or more of the fields above.
- Relevant research experience using quantitative methods, including Input-Output (IO) analysis, economic impact assessment, scenario analysis or related modelling tools. Knowledge of programming or statistical software would be an advantage.
- A good understanding and interest in sustainable development, technological and policy options for energy transition, maritime sector and decarbonization.
- Relevant experience in economic, industry, market or policy analysis. Experience with maritime or shipping data, greenhouse gas emissions, Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) or Net-Zero Framework (NZF) in maritime sector would be an advantage.
- Relevant working or practical experience with industry or government agencies would be valuable.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
