Research Fellow / Research Associate (Population-Based Modelling)

Job Description

Project: Modelling the Impact of Obesity Prevention and Management Strategies within Regional Health Systems

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is inviting applications for a Research Fellow or Research Associate to contribute to a collaborative project between NHG and NUHS. This project focuses on developing a population-based modelling framework to evaluate the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and equity impact of obesity prevention and management strategies across Singapore’s Regional Health Systems.

This role offers an opportunity to work at the interface of population health research, policy, and systems modelling, collaborating closely with clinicians, public health leaders, and community partners to co-design strategies that improve population outcomes and reduce the burden of obesity in Singapore.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or support the design and implementation of a modelling framework to estimate the population health and economic impacts of obesity prevention and management interventions
  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesise evidence on intervention effectiveness, reach, and cost, prioritising local data where available
  • Collate and analyse quantitative datasets from multiple sources, including regional health system records, and integrate findings into the model
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement activities, including workshops, focus groups, and Practitioner Advisory Group consultations
  • Prepare manuscripts for academic publication and contribute to project reports, policy briefs, and funding deliverables

Terms of Appointment

  • Full-time position based in Singapore
  • Initial appointment for 12 months, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and project needs
  • Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience

To Apply

Please submit through the NUS recruitment portal:

  • A cover letter outlining your background, motivation, and fit for the role (max 500 words)
  • A two-page CV including the names and contact details of two referees
  • A writing sample (e.g., academic paper, policy brief, or analytic report)

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.

Qualifications

  • Research Associate: Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, health economics, biostatistics, or a related field
  • Research Fellow: PhD in one of the above disciplines
  • Strong quantitative skills, ideally including familiarity with decision-analytic modelling, Markov models, DALYs, or HALE-based outcomes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary, multi-stakeholder environment

Desirable Attributes

  • Prior experience in health economic modelling or population health impact analysis
  • Proficiency in statistical or modelling software (e.g., R, Stata, Python, or TreeAge)
  • Familiarity with qualitative research methods and software (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti)
  • Experience working in healthcare, public health, or community health settings
  • Interest in population health, obesity prevention, health systems design, and health policy
