About the opportunity
The Social and Behavioural Insights in Immunisation Research Group (SABII) - is part of the School of Public Health and Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases (Sydney ID). SABII’s goal is to build knowledge and capacity in social and behavioural science to strengthen vaccinations programs around the world and its home Faculty is the Faculty of Medicine and Health. This position reports directly to Professor Julie Leask.
The group is looking to appoint a Research Fellow to undertake independent and collaborative research to lead on aspects of research within the SABII group.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- undertake research aimed at closing national, regional, and global gaps in immunisation coverage
- provide expert technical and scientific support in the relevant behavioural sciences to contracted projects
- demonstrate a sound knowledge of relevant qualitative and quantitative methods applicable to the behavioural sciences, including the capacity to perform relevant statistical analyses as required
- synthesise and effectively communicate evidence on vaccination social and behavioural sciences to contracting partners and other relevant stakeholders
- project management responsibilities in collaboration with research support staff
- contribute to the supervision of junior staff and students
- contributing to creating a positive workplace culture that values the diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence, and achieving outcomes
About you
To be successful in this role, you have:
- a PhD in behavioural science, social science, Public/Global Health or related doctoral qualifications
- sound knowledge of immunisation programs
- experience use of the WHO Behavioural and Social Drivers of vaccination tools to gather relevant qualitative and quantitative data
- ability to use statistical packages to conduct data analysis, such as, SPSS, Stata or R
- demonstrated track record of publications, reports and other relevant research outputs in immunisation social science
- ideally a track record of working in international settings, including multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary teams, and working in low and middle-income countries
- demonstrated ability to provide valuable, pragmatic advice to contractors in global agencies, governments, and civil society organisations.
- experience in mentoring higher degree research candidates.
