Research Fellow - Underwater Wireless Communications

The Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for a talented and motivated researcher to join Macquarie University's School of Engineering and contribute to the project "Secure, Long-Range Underwater Acoustic Communications Using Delay-Doppler Waveforms and Adaptive Beamforming."

The successful candidate will join a high-performing research team working at the intersection of wireless communications, signal processing, delay-Doppler communications and adaptive beamforming. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with researchers at Macquarie University and the University of Melbourne, and to contribute to a project in secure, long-range underwater acoustic communications.

The appointee will undertake research in waveform and algorithm design, modelling and simulation, and performance evaluation for challenging underwater acoustic communication environments. The role will also contribute to technical reporting, publications and collaborative research activities across the project team.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  • A doctoral or master's degree in a relevant field to the research project
  • Demonstrated research experience in delay-Doppler waveform design or closely related areas
  • Strong mathematical and/or algorithmic capability
  • Experience with software packages such as Matlab/Python
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to collaborative research and teamwork

For appointment at Level B, candidates should also demonstrate a strong track record of independent research in digital communications and/or signal processing, as evidenced by research publications in high quality international journals and conferences

Desirable:

  • Excellent knowledge of the field of communication theory
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and the ability to work to deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Commitment and ability to work with graduate and research students
