Skills/Qualifications
Applicants must cumulatively meet the following requirements:
- Proven laboratory experience in:
- isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles/exosomes;
- animal cell culture;
- molecular biology techniques;
- Knowledge of techniques such as:
- RT-qPCR;
- RNA extraction and quantification;
- Western blot;
- ELISA;
- aseptic techniques and cell culture maintenance;
- Additional experience in the following areas will be considered an advantage:
- transwell models;
- microbiology.
Specific Requirements
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, or related scientific fields.
The selected fellow will join the EV4GUT Feeling project team and will participate in activities related to:
- isolation of extracellular vesicles/exosomes from intestinal models and biological samples;
- maintenance and optimization of animal cell cultures;
- development of in vitro intestinal dysbiosis models;
- molecular characterization of biomarkers present in extracellular vesicles;
- analysis and processing of experimental data;
- preparation of technical reports and support for the scientific dissemination of project results.

Benefits
The current open Research Fellowship (BI) is within the scope of the research project “EV4GUT Feeling: Extracellular Vesicle-Based Diagnostics for Gut Health” (https://doi.org/10.54499/2024.17099.PEX), funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT, I.P.).
The fellowship is for a total of 12 months, starting date of August 1st, 2026, and may be renewed up to the limits established by the applicable regulations and project duration.
This call is governed by the Research Fellowship Holder Statute, approved by Law no. 40/2004 of August 18, in its current version, by the FCT Research Fellowship Regulations, and by the Research Fellowship Regulations of the host institution.
Eligibility criteria
The candidadte mus have some knowledge in Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Nanobiotechnology, or related scientific areas.
Applicants must cumulatively have at least a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, or related scientific fields.
Selection process
The selection method will be conducted as follow:
- Curriculum evaluation (70%)
- Professional interview (30%)
Emphasis will be given during the curriculum evaluation to:
- previous experience in exosome/extracellular vesicle isolation;
- experience with animal cell culture;
- proficiency in molecular biology techniques;
- scientific publications and/or previous participation in research projects.

Application Deadline
The call will be open from June 01st 2026, to June 15th, 2026.
Publication of Results
The final evaluation results will be communicated to all applicants via email within 5 working days after the completion of the evaluation process.
Each applicant shall have a period of 15 working days to submit a formal complaint regarding the evaluation of their application and to discuss the results with the respective evaluation panel.
Following the end of the complaint period, an additional 5 working days will be required for the collection and assessment of the documentation related to the selected candidate.
The administrative processing of the final competition results will take place during an additional 5 working-day period.
