Research Field: Architecture
Objectives: The main tasks to be carried out under the research grant will include:
- Regularly carrying out research and development activities, as well as other scientific and technical activities within the scope of the InterPED research project, namely: monitoring the implementation of the various work packages; carrying out archival research; systematising information and representing case studies within the project; participating and collaborating in the preparation of scientific articles and other project-related outputs; supporting the organisation of scientific activities; and developing original research;
- eveloping geographical, socio-economic, urban planning and energy analyses, including the preparation of thematic cartography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS);
- Collecting, processing and analysing data;
- Producing maps and visual representations;
- Contextualising the research within the scope of the InterPED research project;
- Supporting the organisation of events and the dissemination of research
Work plan:
The work plan will be carried out at the locations required for its implementation, under the scientific supervision of Dr Andreia Garcia, Integrated Researcher at Lab2PT.

Scientific Research Fellowship Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004 of 18 August, in its current wording (as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of 28 August); the Research Fellowship Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) currently in force (Regulation No. 950/2019), published in the Diário da República, 2nd Series, No. 241, of 16 December 2019; and the Research Fellowship Regulations of the University of Beira Interior – RBIUBI (Regulation No. 100/2020), published in the Diário da República, 2nd Series, No. 27, of 7 February 2020.
Work location:
The work will be carried out within the Project Territory, at the premises of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, University of Beira Interior, Rua Marquês d’Ávila e Bolama, 6201-001 Covilhã, Portugal, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Andreia Garcia (andreiagarcia@eaad.uminho.pt), assisted by Doctor Inês Campos (idc@ubi.pt).
Fellowship duration and conditions
The grant will have a duration of 12 months, with an expected start date in october. The activities will be carried out on an exclusive dedication basis, in accordance with the Research Fellowship Regulations of the University of Beira Interior (RBIUBI).

Documents for application: Candidates must submit:
- Curriculum vitae;
- Motivation letter;
- Copy of the certificate(s) proving the required academic qualifications;
- A piece of work selected by the candidate as the most representative of their academic or professional career;
- Recognition of the academic degree, where the degree was obtained from a foreign higher education institution (this recognition may be submitted up to the time the grant agreement is signed);
- Proof of enrolment in a Doctoral Programme or in a non-degree-confering course, or a declaration on honour confirming that the candidate meets the enrolment requirements and undertakes to provide proof of enrolment (this document may be submitted up to the time the grant agreement is signed);
- A declaration on honour from the candidate stating, for the Research Grant (BI) category, that they meet the conditions required for the award of the grant in accordance with Article 6 of the RBIUBI.
Candidates may also submit any other documents they consider relevant for the assessment of their merit.
Failure to comply with the established application deadline, as well as failure to submit, or late submission of, the documents referred to in points b), c) and d) of section 11.3, will result in exclusion from the selection procedure.
The documents referred to in section 11.3 should preferably be submitted in a non-editable format.
Whenever considered necessary, the Selection Panel may request candidates to submit additional documents supporting the information provided in their curriculum vitae, setting a deadline for this purpose, under the following terms:
- The requested documentation may not be used to introduce information not previously referred to in the curriculum vitae, nor to submit documents that were missing and are expressly required under this Call;
- All candidates shall be informed that additional documentation has been requested.
Any false statements made by candidates shall be subject to the penalties provided for by law.

Publication/notification of results:
The results of the evaluation will be published in the form of a ranked list, ordered according to the final score obtained, and displayed in a visible and publicly accessible location at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Beira Interior. Candidates will also be notified by email.

- Have an advanced command of English, as well as knowledge of other languages;
- Demonstrate organisational skills, teamwork abilities, and the capacity to communicate with national and international partners.
Research Grants (BI) awarded to Master’s degree holders attending non-degree-conferring courses may only be granted for a maximum period of one year.
Research Grants (BI) awarded to Master’s degree holders enrolled in non-degree-conferring courses may only be granted to candidates who, with the signing of the respective grant agreement, including any possible renewals, do not exceed an accumulated period of two years under this type of grant, whether consecutive or non-consecutive.
If the academic degree required for this call was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, the provisions set out in Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August, and Ministerial Order No. 33/2019, of 25 January, shall apply. The presentation of a recognised academic degree certificate is mandatory for the signing of the grant agreement. The Proof of enrolment in the 3rd Cycle of Studies / non-degree-conferring course must be provided, without exception, before the grant agreement is signed.

Benefits
A monthly maintenance allowance of €1.359,64 will be awarded in accordance with Annex I of the RBIUBI, based on the currently applicable rates, which may be consulted at https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas. This amount may be supplemented by voluntary social security contributions, should the grant holder choose this option, as well as personal accident insurance.

Selection process
The following selection methods will be applied: curricular assessment (CA), weighted at 90%, optionally complemented by an interview (INT), weighted at 10%. The interview will only take place if the Selection Panel considers that the curricular assessment does not sufficiently clarify the candidates’ actual skills or does not allow a clear distinction to be made as to which candidate is best suited to the position and the duties to be performed. If held, the interview will be conducted with the three (3) highest-ranked candidates following the curricular assessment.
Each member of the Selection Panel will assess the selection methods on a scale from 0 to 20 points.
The criteria and weighting factors for the curricular assessment (CA) are as follows:
a) Professional experience (0 to 4 points);
b) Motivation letter (0 to 8 points);
c) Skills in computer-aided design software and graphic editing tools (0 to 4 points);
d) Work submitted by the candidate as the most representative of their academic or professional career (0 to 4 points).
The criteria and weighting factors for the interview (INT), should it take place, are as follows:
a) Knowledge in the field of the research project (0 to 8 points);
b) Communication and argumentation skills (0 to 4 points);
c) Motivation, availability and English language proficiency (0 to 8 points).
Candidates may request authorisation from the Chair of the Selection Panel for the interview to be conducted by videoconference, providing the reasons for such a request.
Failure to attend the interview stage of the selection process will be considered as withdrawal from the call, and the candidate will therefore be excluded.
The Final Score (FS) will be calculated according to the following formula: FS = (0.9 × CA) + (0.1 × INT)
This call is intended exclusively to fill the position indicated above. If none of the candidates demonstrates the profile considered suitable for carrying out the work plan described above within the scope of this project, the Selection Panel reserves the right not to award the research grant.

Complaint and Appeal Procedures:
Following notification of the provisional lists of results at the different stages of the selection procedure (admission and exclusion, curricular assessment and interview), candidates shall have a period of 10 working days to submit, if they so wish, written comments under the prior hearing procedure for interested parties, in accordance with Articles 121 et seq. of the Code of Administrative Procedure. If any comments or objections are submitted, the final decision will be issued after consideration of the statements presented during the prior hearing procedure. Once the statutory period of 10 working days has elapsed, the proposed final classification and ranking of candidates shall become definitive.
Reserve List:
A reserve list will be drawn up based on the final ranking of candidates and may be used in the event that the candidate ranked first withdraws. The Project Coordinator reserves the right to invite the next-ranked candidate, and so on successively, until the position is filled.
The reserve list may be used for a maximum period of six months from the date on which the final ranking list is formally approved.
