Offer Description
A Research Fellowship (BI) (Reference REQUIMTE 2026-50) in the project “SelfEnergyDriver – 3-in-1 Self-Powered Hybrid Energy-Driven Wearable Technologies: Unifying Energy Harvesting and Storage”, with reference 101171793, supported by European funds by European Research Council, is available at REQUIMTE.

Admission requirements: Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Engineering Physics, Materials Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related field, and enrolled in a doctoral programme or enrolled in/attending a non-degree course taught by a higher education institution in conjunction with an R&D unit, in the area of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Engineering Physics, Materials Engineering, or Nanotechnology. Proven experience in atomic force microscopy (AFM), namely in sample preparation for AFM analysis, equipment operation, data acquisition, processing, and analysis. Experience in advanced AFM modes, as well as in the preparation and characterization of functionalized nanomaterials, films, coatings, and/or surfaces, will be valued.
In case the Master degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August, and all formalities established therein must be complied with at the signature of Fellowship contract.
Working plan: The work plan comprises the following activities:
- Preparation and optimization of nanomaterials, films, and functional textiles, including the functionalization and/or coating of textile substrates;
- Morphological and topographical characterization of nanomaterials, films, coatings, and functionalized surfaces by atomic force microscopy (AFM);
- Development and application of advanced AFM methodologies for the characterization of local properties, namely mechanical and electrical properties, including studies by Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM);
- Processing, analysis, and interpretation of the obtained data and correlation with other physicochemical, electrical, and/or electrochemical properties of the materials and devices under study.

Work Place: The work will be conducted at LAQV-REQUIMTE Associated Laboratory, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, under the supervision of Professor Clara Rodrigues Pereira.
Duration: The fellowship will have duration of 12 months, possibly renewable for equal periods, but cannot exceed the project end date (31/05/2030), starting on October of 2026.
Monthly stipend: The monthly stipend is €1.359,64 according to the stipend values established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM-2026.pdf). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.
Selection criteria: The following selection methods will be used:
- Average of the final grades of the Bachelor and Master degrees or final grade of the Integrated Master degree – 35% (score from 0–20);
- Experience relevant to the work plan – 35% (score from 0–20);
- Scientific publications and communications and their relevance – 20% (score from 0–20);
- Motivation letter – 10% (score from 0–20).
Interview: In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best positioned candidate, the jury will interview these candidates. In this situation, the value of the interview is 10%.
The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.
