Offer Description
A call is open for the allocation of 1 (one)research fellowship for a Bachelor, MSc student (BI), within the Research Project entitled “COOPERHATE - Multidisciplinary cooperation approach to prevent and counter hate crime and hate speech”, funded by European Union**,**under the CERV programme, taking place at the Computer Science Departament of the University of Beira Interior, under the following conditions:

Objectives:
This work aims to develop and validate new big data analysis methodologies for the early detection and mitigation of cyberattacks and data exfiltration in large-scale network infrastructures. The research focuses on modelling network behaviour and identifying complex attack vectors using advanced machine learning algorithms applied to traffic metadata. Furthermore, it explores integrating these models into Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) platforms, evaluating their impact on system resilience and compliance with current security standards.
Work plan:
- Phase 1: Literature Review and State of the Art;
- Phase 2: Dataset Selection and Preparation;
- Phase 3: Design and Development of Computational Models;
- Phase 4: Integration with SOAR Architectures and Compliance;
- Phase 5: Comprehensive Evaluation and Empirical Validation;
- Phase 6: Writing and Dissemination of Results.

Work location:
The work will be developed at the HULTIG, Computer Science Departmentunder the scientific supervision of Doctor Sebastião Pais (sebastiao@ubi.pt).
Fellowship duration and conditions:
The fellowship is open for 12months, expected to start on september 2026. The activity is in the regime of exclusive dedication in accordance with the RBIUBI. The fellowship may be renewed for a period of 12 months, not exceeding end of the project.

The presentation of the certificate(s) recognizing foreign academic degrees is mandatory for the signing of the fellowship contract. The proof of registration in the 2nd cycle is required for the fellowship contractualization.

Benefits
A monthly maintenance allowance will be granted in accordance with the Annex I of the RBIUBI, with the amount of 1.090,98€, according to the updated values that can be consulted at https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM-2026.pdf. The fellowship holder will have a personal accident insurance and can choose to be covered by the voluntary social insurance. These values will be added to the amount of monthly maintenance allowance.

- Be enrolled in a study program leading to a Master degree in the scientific field of Computer Science.

Selection process
The selection process will comprise two assessment stages:
- 1st stage – Curriculum evaluation;
- 2nd stage – Interview, which may be conducted by videoconference
The 1st-stage assessment uses the following criteria: Curriculum Vitae/Academic record (45%); alignment of the candidate’s profile with the project based on relevant experience in the tasks described in the work plan (45%); fluency in spoken and written English (10%).
The three candidates with the highest scores after the 1st stage will advance to the 2nd stage.
In the final ranking, each stage will carry equal weight (50%).

Complaint and Appeal Procedures:
After communication of the provisional lists of the results in the different phases of the selection process (Admission and Exclusion, Curricular Evaluation and Interview), the candidates have 10 working days to pronounce their disagreement, under the terms of article 121 and the Código do Procedimento Administrativo. If any allegations are presented, the final decision will be issued after the analysis of the statements presented during the prior hearing of interested parties. After the statutory deadline of 10 working days, the proposal for the final classification and ranking of the candidates becomes definitive.
