Admission Requirements:
To apply for the scholarship, applicants must comply simultaneously with the following requirements:
- Hold a bachelor's degree in environmental health, Public Health, Environmental Engineering, Quality and Environmental Engineering, or a related field, with a final grade of at least 13 values out of 20;
- Hold a master's degree in environmental health, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Quality and Environmental Engineering, with a final grade of at least 16 values out of 20;
- Be enrolled in a non-degree course integrated in the educational programme of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units. Candidates who are not yet enrolled I the aforementioned programme must submit a declaration of honour stating they will enrol before the contract start date. In such cases, enrolment will be verified at the time of hiring.
Specific Requirements
Preferred Requirements:
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:
- Specialised or additional training in the following areas:
- Environmental monitoring and the use of sensors;
- Use of data analysis software;
- Relevant Portuguese regulations and standards, particularly those relating to indoor air quality in school buildings; or other areas relevant to the work plan.
- Technical and/or field experience:
- Using sensors to monitor indoor and/or outdoor air quality;
- Applying active and passive sampling methods for indoor air physicochemical parameters;
- Conducting environmental and/or epidemiological studies in schools.
- Proficiency in computer tools and data analysis methods, particularly for:
- Constructing, organising, cleaning and processing large volumes of data;
- Performing robust statistical analyses, namely using tools such as SPSS and Excel.
- Experience in scientific research:
- Participation in research projects in the fields of the environment, environmental health or indoor air quality;
- Scientific output, namely articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations or other scientific publications related to the scientific field covered by this call for applications. First authorship of articles and presenting authorship of conference presentations will be particularly valued;
- Receipt of scientific awards related to presentations, articles or other research work.
- Oral and written fluency in Portuguese and English, demonstrated by a declaration from the candidate and/or a recognised certificate.

Benefits
Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance:
The monthly value of the fellowship will correspond to 1309,64€, according to the current value of fellowships awarded by the “Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia”. To this value, the Voluntary Social Security amount is added, with Accident Insurance being paid.
Eligibility criteria

Selection process
Methods of selection:
The selection includes curriculum evaluation, followed by an interview for the top three candidate scoring 12/20 in the curricular evaluation. The curricular evaluation is graded on a scale 0 to 20 points focusing on: (1) academic training, (2) professional experience in the above-mentioned areas, (3) scientific activity, and (4) proficiency in English and Portuguese language. In case of doubts about the necessary training/experience, the Jury can ask for more supporting documentation. Failure to provide the documentation within the requested period may lead to exclusion.
During the interview, a scale of 0 to 20 points will be used to assess knowledge and skills. The final score will add up the curriculum evaluation (weight of 55%) and interview grade (weight of 45%). The candidate gathering the highest final score, provided that equal or greater than 12 values, will be selected.
Additional comments
Workplan:
The grantee will undertake the following core tasks:
- Collaborate in the development of monitoring protocols and the creation of communication materials for the school community.
- Identify suitable locations and schedules for the installation of sensors in schools.
- Participate in the installation of continuous monitoring sensors (CO₂, temperature, humidity, PM2.5/PM10) equipped with a tri-colour LED indicator system.
- Train teachers to promote appropriate classroom ventilation according to the visual indicators displayed by the LED system linked to the monitoring sensors.
- Conduct analysis of environmental data and ventilation behaviours.
- Contribute to the project’s technical-scientific indicators and dissemination of results.
Scientific Supervision:
The work will be carried out under the scientific supervision of Dr. Joana Madureira, Assistant Researcher at the Department of Epidemiology in Lisbon, and Dr. Carla Costa, Principal Researcher at the Department of Environmental Health in Porto, both of which are part of the National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge, IP.
Duration of the grant:
The grant will have a duration of 9 months and may be renewed, subject to the applicable legislation, up to the maximum duration of the project.
Composition of the Selection Panel:
The Jury is composed by Dr. Joana Madureira (President of the Jury), Dr. Carla Trindade Costa, Dr. Solange Costa (Effective Members) and Dr. João Paulo Teixeira (Substitute Member).
