Offer Description
Call reference: LAQV/BI/03/2026
Applications are invited for 2 (two) Research Fellowships (BI) for master’s degree holders enrolled in a doctoral programme, within the project “LIFE REAMINE: Sustainable Solutions for Reducing NMVOC Emissions in Foundries through Advanced Amine Recovery”, reference 101216139 — LIFE24-ENV-ES-LIFE REAMINE, funded by the EU LIFE programme, to be carried out at the Department of Chemistry of the NOVA School of Science and Technology, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (NOVA FCT), under the following conditions.
1. Scientific area
Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or related fields.
2. Mandatory admission requirements
Applicants must hold a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a similar field, with a final grade of at least 17 on a scale of 0 to 20, and be enrolled in a study cycle leading to a doctoral degree in Green Chemistry or Sustainable Chemistry.
At the application stage, proof of enrolment in a doctoral programme may be replaced by a declaration on honour, using the attached template. The fellowship contract may only be concluded upon submission of the relevant proof of enrolment, under the Research Fellowship Regulations of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.
2.1. Preferred qualifications
Proven laboratory experience in the field of the call, namely Chemical Engineering, Materials Preparation, Materials Characterisation, Physical Chemistry, Thermodynamics or Applied Chemistry.
3. Work plan
Synthesis and characterisation of efficient adsorbent materials to reduce emissions in foundries through advanced amine recovery.
4. Applicable legislation and regulations
Research Fellowship Holder Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004 of 18 August, as currently amended, and the Research Fellowship Regulations of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, approved by Order No. 9484/2023, signed on 29 August 2023 and published in the Diário da República, Series II, on 14 September 2023.
5. Workplace and scientific supervision
The work will be carried out at the Department of Chemistry of NOVA FCT, under the scientific supervision of Ana Belén Pereiro Estévez and João Araújo.
6. Duration of the fellowships
Each fellowship will last 12 (twelve) months, with an expected starting date of 1 December 2026, and may be renewed for additional periods, subject to available funding, the project remaining in force and continued fulfilment of the applicable requirements, up to the regulatory limit of 48 months for students enrolled in a doctoral programme.
The activities will be carried out on an exclusive dedication basis, under the Research Fellowship Holder Statute. The award of the fellowship does not create or constitute an employment or service provision relationship.
7. Monthly maintenance allowance
The monthly maintenance allowance for each fellowship is €1,359.64 (one thousand three hundred and fifty-nine euros and sixty-four cents), payable monthly by bank transfer. The fellowship holder will be covered by personal accident insurance and may join the Voluntary Social Security scheme, with reimbursement of contributions under the applicable legal provisions.
8. Selection methods
Selection will be based on curriculum assessment (AC) and assessment of previous experience in the required research area (EP), weighted at 40% and 60%, respectively. All criteria will be scored on a scale of 0 to 20.
Without an interview, the final score will be calculated using the formula: CF = 0.40 × AC + 0.60 × EP.
The selection panel may, if it considers it necessary, invite candidates tied in the initial score for an interview (E). In that case, the weights will be 20% for curriculum assessment, 30% for previous experience and 50% for the interview, and the final score will be calculated using the formula: CF = 0.20 × AC + 0.30 × EP + 0.50 × E. The score resulting from the interview will be used exclusively to rank the tied candidates, while maintaining the position of that group relative to the other candidates.
Candidates who do not meet the mandatory admission requirements will be excluded.
9. Selection panel
Chair: Ana Belén Pereiro Estévez, PhD, Principal Researcher, NOVA FCT.
First full member: João Miguel Mendes de Araújo, Assistant Professor, NOVA FCT.
Second full member: Joana Cepeda da Silva Antunes, PhD, Researcher, NOVA FCT.
First alternate member: Inês Alexandra Morgado do Nascimento Matos, PhD, Assistant Professor, NOVA FCT.
Second alternate member: Mário Emanuel Campos de Sousa Diniz, PhD, Associate Professor, NOVA FCT.
10. Publication and notification of results
The assessment results will be communicated to candidates in writing by email within 60 working days of the application deadline. Interested parties will have 10 working days, starting on the first working day following notification, to submit their comments during the prior hearing stage, under the Code of Administrative Procedure.
All candidates will be notified of the final decision. An administrative complaint or appeal against the final decision may be submitted within 10 working days of its notification, through drh.bolsas@fct.unl.pt, under the Research Fellowship Regulations of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.
