Offer Description
A call for applications is open for a Research Grant (BI) within the scope of the project “GICoS - Research Group on Sustainable Construction”, funded by national funds through the FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., under project UID/06213/2025, under the following conditions:
Scientific Area:
EngineeringAdmission Requirements:
- The candidate must be a doctoral or master's student enrolled in a non-degree-granting course integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution.
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, or related fields.
- Experience in sustainable construction, especially in the areas of activity of GICoS - Research Group on Sustainable Construction.
Work Plan:
Develop research activities in the areas of intervention of the Sustainable Construction Research Group (GICOS):- Materials, Products and Eco-Construction;
- Energy, Environment and Management;
- Structural Engineering.
Objectives:
Specific objectives will be defined after the candidate's classification and assignment of the research topic to be developed in one of the GICoS intervention areas.The candidate must develop research activities that include:
- Evaluation of the state of the art of the topic to be developed;
- Conducting theoretical, numerical and/or experimental studies;
- Writing intermediate reports of the activities;
- Carrying out activities to disseminate results.

The work will be carried out at GICOS/IPB, under the scientific supervision of an integrated researcher at GICOS.Grant duration:
The grant will have an initial duration of 12 months, with a planned start date of 28/09/2026 (non-renewable).Monthly Maintenance Allowance Amount:
The grant amount corresponds to 1,359.64€, according to the table of grant values awarded by FCT, I.P. in the country.Grant recipients will benefit from personal accident insurance and, if they are not covered by any social protection scheme, they may ensure the exercise of the right to social security by adhering to the voluntary social security scheme, under the terms provided for in the Code of Contribution Regimes of the Social Security System. The grant amount will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
Selection Methods and their respective valuation:
The selection methods to be used will be the following:- Curriculum evaluation and its suitability for the work in question (50%).
- Demonstrated research experience in the area of sustainable construction (30%).
- Letter of Motivation (10%).
- Letter of reference from an integrated researcher at GICoS (10%).
Composition of the Selection Jury:
The jury responsible for the selection will be composed of: President: Luís Mesquita (Polytechnic Institute of Bragança); Full members: Eduarda Luso (Polytechnic Institute of Bragança) and Flora Silva (Polytechnic Institute of Bragança); Alternate members: Paulo Piloto (Polytechnic Institute of Bragança).Method of publication/notification of results:
The communications and final results of the evaluation will be published through the IPB application submission portal or, if necessary, by email notification.Application period:
The competition is open from 04/08/2026 to 14/09/2026.Application Submission Method:
Applications can be submitted through the IPB application submission portal (http://concursos.ipb.pt), including the following documents:- Candidate's Curriculum Vitae, in Portuguese or English;
- Certificates of academic degrees held, specifying the final grade or, alternatively, a declaration of honor from the candidate stating that they will complete the degree by the end of the application period;
- Letter of motivation, in English.
Documents proving the holding of academic degrees or diplomas, or enrollment in an academic degree or diploma, may be waived during the application phase, being replaced by a declaration of honor from the candidate, with verification of this condition being mandatory during the grant contracting phase.
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries need to be recognized by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25. The presentation of the recognition is mandatory for the signing of the contract.
Deadlines and procedures for complaints and appeals:
If the decision to be taken is unfavorable to the granting of the requested grant, candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to express themselves, if they wish, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Administrative Procedure Code.An appeal against the final decision may be made to the President of IPB within 15 working days after the respective notification.

- Appropriateness of the candidate's training and experience to the objectives of the work to be performed, namely in the area of Engineering.
- Demonstrated proficiency in English (written and oral) will also be valued.
