Offer Description
A position is now open for the attribution of 2 Research Grant (BI) under the funding of T-PRISM Toilet Platform for Real-time Integrated Sensing and Monitoring for Analysis (project nº 24841) financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the PORTUGAL2030 Programme, under the following conditions:
Work Plan and Objectives to Reach: The work to be carried out aims at the research and development of Computer Vision and Machine/Deep Learning algorithms focused on the automatic detection of blood in stool and on morphological classification according to the Bristol Stool Scale, within the context of developing an innovative healthcare solution for passive, continuous, and non-invasive health monitoring. These approaches will enable the early detection of clinically relevant gastrointestinal alterations, including signs associated with colorectal cancer and other digestive diseases, through intelligent visual analysis based on advanced Computer Vision techniques.
Scholarship Duration: this scholarship will last for 12 months, from September 2026 to the end of the project.

Admittance requirements:
- Knowledge of computer science;
- Programming skills in Python and C++;
- Basic knowledge of Artificial Intelligence techniques as Machine Learning e Computer Vision;
- Knowledge of Deep Learning (i.e., Pytorch, Tensorflow, JAX) and Computer Vision (e.g., OpenCV, MATLAB) frameworks/toolboxes;
- Basic knowledge to develop and deploy edge computing services will be considered a plus.

Benefits
Scholarship Duration: this scholarship will last for 12 months, from September 2026 to the end of the project.
Amount of the Monthly maintenance subvention: The amount of the scholarship will be 1090,98€, according to the table of values of the scholarships awarded directly by the Portuguese National Funding Agency for Science, research and technology (FCT) – online available at research grants values.

Applicable Legislation: The grant award is based on the Scientific Research Scholarship Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004 of 18th August and the Research Grant Regulation in force of the Portuguese National Funding Agency for Science, which is the one adopted by the CCG/ZGDV.

Selection process

Selection methods: The evaluation will take into account the candidate's merit, considering academic course, curricular profile and experience in scientific research, mainly in the scientific fields of specialization related with the requirements defined in this fellowship's position offer.
Candidate selection will be divided into two stages. While a former stage involving curricular evaluation (60% of the total value) will aim a preliminary screening, a latter one will consist of an interview (40% of the total value), with the goal of producing an ordered list of candidates, in which the selected person occupies the first position, according to the selection criteria previously specified. The jury reserves the right to cancel the call if none of the candidates meets the required qualifications.
