Offer Description
A tender is hereby opened for the award of 1 Research Grant(s) (RG) under Development of multifunctional materials for biofilters in aquaculture: establishing new standards of quality and sustainability, CENTRO2030-FEDER-02594500 of Center for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM), under the following conditions:
- Scientific Area: Aquaculture, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry.
- Financing Source CENTRO 2030.

- Other Requirements: Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related fields Previous experience in conducting trials with fish in an experimental setting is valued, as well as basic knowledge of water quality parameter analyses and laboratory work in the fields of chemistry or biochemistry, including techniques such as lipid extraction or proximate, biochemical and nutrient analyses. Interest or experience in nutritional or sensory quality of foods is also valued, along with the ability to work in a team, follow protocols, organize experimental work, and demonstrate motivation to learn new techniques.
- Eligibility: Applicants are eligible if they comply with paragraph a) of no.1 of article 2, of the Research Fellow Statute in the wording given by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28th, and also the provisions of article 9 of the Scientific Research Grant Regulations of the University of Aveiro.
- Work plan: The work plan includes studying the efficiency of optimized biofiltration through functional polymeric meshes and its effects on water quality, animal welfare, zootechnical performance, and the nutritional and sensory quality of fish in trials conducted in an experimental RAS system. The fellow will take part in the development, operation, and monitoring of the RAS and will carry out laboratory analyses related to lipid profile, nutritional composition, and sensory characteristics of the fish, contributing directly to the system’s proof of concept.
- Applicable legislation and regulations: Research Fellow Statute, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of August 28th; Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, Regulation No. 292/2020, published in Diário da República No. 61, Series II, of March 26th; Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th (Legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions).
- Workplace: The work will be carried out at Department of Biology, CESAM, and the Department of Chemistry, CESAM and LAQV-REQUIMTE of the University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Professor/Doctor Rui Jorge Miranda Rocha, PhD, Maria do Rosário Gonçalves dos Reis Marques Domingues, PhD, and Sílvia Maria da Rocha Simões Carriço, PhD.
- Duration of the grant(s): The grant duration will be 12 months, starting in November of 2026, and may be renewed for additional periods of 12 months, up to the maximum limit of approved funding. Under no circumstances shall it exceed the limits defined in nos. 5 and 6 of article 9, of Regulation no. 292/2020, of February 28th, published in Diário da República, no. 61, Series II, of March 26th (Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro).
- Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant corresponds to €1.309,64, according to the table of values of monthly maintenance allowances, set out in Appendix III of the Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, subject to any updates that may occur and are applicable. The fellow may also be reimbursed for the amount corresponding to the Voluntary Social Security, in case of adherence to this plan.
- Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: Curricular evaluation, with the following weighting: A. Weighted average of the academic degrees obtained to date; B. Proven experience in research activities in the scientific area of the application with the respective value of 60% and 40% Candidates who obtain a classification lower than 15 points (out of 20) in the curricular evaluation will be excluded. If the jury deems it necessary, the 3 highest-ranked candidates from the curricular evaluation will be selected for an interview, in which communication skills and the knowledge acquired during prior work experience will be assessed. If eventually none of the candidates possesses the appropriate profile for the nature of the tasks to be performed and their successful execution, the selection jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship to any of the applicants.
- Composition of the Selection Jury: Chair: Vanessa Jesus de Oliveira, PhD, Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Aveiro; Maria do Rosário Gonçalves dos Reis Marques Domingues, PhD, Associate Professor at the University of Aveiro; and Sílvia Maria da Rocha Simões Carriço, PhD, Associate Professor at the University of Aveiro. Alternate members: Newton Carlos Marcial Gomes, PhD, Principal Researcher at the University of Aveiro, and Rui Jorge Miranda Rocha, PhD, Assistant Professor at the University of Aveiro.
- Deadline for applications (not be less than 10 working days) and how to submit applications: The call is open from 10 08-2026 to 21-08-2026, and only applications submitted within the deadline will be admitted. Applications must be formalized by sending a letter of application accompanied by the following documents: Motivation letter, Curriculum Vitae, academic degree certificate, declaration of honor, and other supporting documents considered relevant. They shall also indicate the e-mail address to which by such indication they accept to be notified for all purposes within this procedure. - Form of publication/notification of results: The results of the evaluation shall be made public no later than 60 working days after the closing date for submission of applications and shall be notified to the applicants. The candidates are informed, in a prior hearing, under the terms established in the Code of Administrative Procedure, of the probable meaning of the final decision, and may, within 10 working days of this notification, express their opinion on this decision. The final results may be appealed to the Rector, to be submitted within 10 working days from the respective notification.
- Tender duration: The final ranking list of candidates will be valid until 30-09-2026 for the purpose of constituting a reserve list for selection.
