About the Role
This post primarily supports the school’s cell culture and human tissue laboratories, providing ad hoc support to undergraduate teaching laboratories as required. To provide comprehensive technical support, primarily in the field of Bioengineering, for staff and research students in the school to enable the achievement of research aims and objectives. To be responsible for the operation, upkeep and maintenance of the biological containment level 2 areas, cell culture and human tissue Laboratories within the School’s site on the Mile End campus, working in the Engineering Building.
About You
You should be educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Biological Sciences, Biomedical Science, or related). You should have previous experience working within a laboratory environment and the ability to manage day-to-day running of a CL2 laboratory or equivalent regulated environment. You should have experience managing cell and tissue culture facilities and managing cryostorage systems. You should have good knowledge of H&S Regulations, particularly those relating to the laboratory, including COSHH and risk assessment procedures.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
This post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with 70-80 academics and a similar number of postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1000 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and 220 PhD students. These are supported by an administrative and technical staff team of 45. The staff and student body are international in make-up.
