A cover letter is required for consideration for this position and should be attached as the first page of your resume. The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position.

The candidate will primarily be responsible for the management of day-to-day operations of a molecular biology research laboratory. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ordering of supplies, maintenance and organization of the laboratory mouse colony (breeding strategies, genotyping, establishment of experimental cohorts, etc.), cell culture maintenance, designing and carrying out molecular and cell biology experiments, supervising junior laboratory members including graduate students and undergraduate assistants, implementing and training others in laboratory safety and regulatory compliance, and the collection, organization, analysis, and presentation of data. Occasional off-hours work (including nights and weekends) may be required. The individual will be working within a diverse academic setting and superior communication skills are essential.

The Garbincius lab is seeking a highly-motivated individual to join a mitochondrial biology laboratory within the Department of Molecular & Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan. The lab has numerous projects centered on mitochondrial biology and its role in heart failure and skeletal muscle disease. Other projects involve discovery-based approaches to identify novel genes and mitochondrial processes driving heart failure. We employ numerous techniques spanning cell and molecular biology up to whole-animal physiology, from cloning and in vitro cell work, to the generation of mutant mice and surgical models of disease.

1-3 years of experience in a related field. Qualified candidates will possess a B.S. or B.A. in biological sciences or related field (MS or PhD are also acceptable). Prior experience working with mouse models is essential for this position, and individuals with prior laboratory experience in cellular and/or molecular biology will be given higher priority. Must be a self-motivated, team-oriented individual with a strong work ethic and excellent communication and organizational skills.

Prior experience in training and supervising others is desired. A two-year minimum commitment is strongly preferred. M-F days some occasional weekend work.
