Highly motivated individual sought for a Research Lab Technician Associate position in a basic/translational research laboratory in the Department of Surgery. The candidate will work closely with Post doctorate, graduate students and senior researchers, with focused project in basic/translational pancreatic cancer research utilizing mouse models. Prior experience in biomedical research is essential.
The candidate will work both independently and as part of a team participating in basic science/applied bench research using a combination of genetic, cellular and molecular biological approaches, including mouse models research.
Major duties include:
1. The applicant would be expected to have previous training and at least one year working experience in the proper care and use of genetically engineered research animals.
2. The applicant is required to have complete knowledge or skill in animal research techniques such as gender determination, proper handling and restraint of mice for routine procedures (e.g., physical examination, administration of medication), observation of mice for recognition of normal and abnormal physical and behavioral changes, appropriate methods of anesthesia and euthanasia, genotyping skills such as tag/tail, DNA extraction and PCR.
3. The applicant will assist with animal tissue dissections; tissue fixation and sectioning; immunohistochemical staining and immunofluorescent staining; digital fluorescence microscopy; image analysis using software such as ImageJ.
4. The applicant will be expected to provide general research support to assist laboratory researchers with experiments on an as-needed basis. The applicant is required to be familiar with primary cell culture, single cell extraction from tissue, RNA/Protein isolation, qRT-PCR, Western blot, flow cytometry and Mass cytometry.
5. The applicant is expected to have moderate knowledge or skill in statistics/analyzing data and be proficient using Microsoft office, GraphPad and Photoshop programs.
6. Maintain accurate data logs and overall smooth functioning of laboratory.
7. The applicant will be expected to assist with daily general lab tasks (dishes, waste disposal, cleaning.
The applicant would be expected to demonstrate proficiency in these techniques within the first 2 weeks of hire.
Requirements:
1. HS Diploma or Assoc Degree
2. Basic laboratory techniques to execute the duties described and 1-2 years of animal and laboratory research experience with management of animal colony are required.
3. Basic computing skills including knowledge of Excel and Word programs for database management and record keeping are required.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.
