Research Laboratory Tech Senior/Intermediate/Associate - Term Limited

A Research Lab Tech position is available in the laboratory of Marcy Balunas, in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, MI. The Balunas laboratory studies interaction-driven molecule discovery from host-microbe symbioses, using microbiological, chemical, and biological assay tools.

Please note: This position is term-limited for 6 months with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding.

We are seeking a laboratory technician who is motivated, well organized, and will assist members of the laboratory with the following:

  • Performing culturing of microbes, including media preparation, mono- and co-culturing, and other related experiments.
  • Maintaining and organizing culture library.
  • Ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies.
  • Keeping a safe and functional laboratory space.
  • Maintaining laboratory protocols and equipment.

Senior Level:

Bachelor's degree in microbiology or related field with a minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience is required.

Willingness and ability to follow instructions, and work as part of a team.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted, including relevant undergraduate and graduate student experience.

Intermediate Level:

Bachelor's degree in microbiology or related field with a minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience is required.

Willingness and ability to follow instructions, and work as part of a team.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted, including relevant undergraduate and graduate student experience.

Associate Level:

Associate's degree in microbiology or a related field is required.

Willingness and ability to follow instructions, and work as part of a team.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
