The role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Research Manager (Data) to join the Population Health Sciences (PHS) team at Bristol Medical School. This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in advancing the use of large-scale administrative and electronic health data to support world-leading, policy-relevant research.
You will contribute to the development and delivery of innovative, research-ready datasets, working closely with researchers, clinicians and partners across the University of Bristol and Bristol NHS Group. The role sits at the intersection of data science, research support, and infrastructure development, with a strong emphasis on enabling high-quality, impactful health research.
Hybrid working is available: the postholder will be expected to attend campus regularly (typically 2–3 days per week), with flexibility for remote working aligned to team and project needs.
What will you be doing?
- Managing and curating complex health and administrative datasets, including linked and longitudinal data resources.
- Developing data pipelines and processes to support the creation of novel datasets (e.g. maternal and perinatal data assets).
- Providing expert advice and support to researchers on data access, governance, and analytical potential.
- Acting as a key liaison between data providers, researchers, and partner organisations to facilitate efficient and secure data use.
- Leading the development of user guidance, documentation and training to support effective and responsible data use.
- Contributing to a collaborative research environment that maximises the impact of health data science research.
You should apply if
- You have experience working with complex health datasets, including data management and curation.
- You are experienced using tools such as SQL and Python and have experience with statistical software (e.g. R).
- You understand data governance, confidentiality, and information security requirements, particularly in a research or health data context.
- You have strong organisational skills and can manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- You are able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences.
- You enjoy working collaboratively and building relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
