About The Role

This is a fixed-term, part time (7 hours per week) role until April 2027. Swansea University is seeking to appoint a Research Officer to support a project exploring developments in Welsh language education for migrants in Wales. Funded through the AHRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA), this post will contribute to a programme of work examining how research and engagement have shaped policy and practice in a multilingual language provision. The Research Officer will work closely with the project team to gather and analyse evidence from across policy, education, and community settings. The project focuses on documenting how initiatives supporting Welsh language learning for migrants have developed across Wales, including developments in adult language provision, bilingual education initiatives, and multilingual approaches to integration. The role will involve engaging with a range of stakeholders including policymakers, education providers, and third-sector organisations working with migrant communities. The Research Officer will support the design and implementation of data collection activities, including interviews, surveys, focus groups, and documentary analysis. A key aspect of the role will be capturing the perspectives of practitioners and learners, and documenting examples of practice that demonstrate developments in Welsh language provision for migrant learners. Responsibilities will include recruiting participants, organising stakeholder engagement activities, collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data, and compiling case studies that illustrate developments in policy and practice. The postholder will also contribute to the preparation of evidence reports, briefing materials, and research outputs arising from the project. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a researcher interested in language education, migration, and multilingualism to gain experience in applied research and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will have strong organisational and communication skills and an interest in the role of language education in supporting social inclusion and participation.
