Johns Hopkins, founded in 1876, is America's first research university and home to nine world-class academic divisions working together as one university.

The department of Otolaryngology is seeking a Research Program Coordinator. The Research Program Coordinator will coordinate the administrative and scientific implementation of research studies (both collaborative and independent). Will work closely with the principal investigator though most of the work will be independent and self-directed. Will coordinate all activities of a research study to assure validity of findings. Assist with protocol submission to the IRB. Ensure adherence to protocols and perform data entry. He/she will have the opportunity to interact directly with patients through all phases of research studies, including recruitment, screening, enrollment, testing, and follow-up care. Will be required to perform general lab duties including but not limited to specimen processing, shipping of specimens, and sustaining an orderly laboratory workspace.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in facilitating the implementation of clinical trials including direct communication with principal investigator, trial sponsor and university officials involved in this process.
  • Coordinate day-to-day activities of multiple research studies and will oversee record management for research study, set up database using Redcap, Excel and Access or similar systems.
  • Assist in overseeing budget expenditures for study operations.
  • Serves as a resource for clinicians involved in study in regard to protocol requirements.
  • Abstract medical data from charts requiring interpretation.
  • Assist in coordinating study meetings.
  • Participates in the study meetings and provide update on protocol implementation status and make recommendations of operational issues.
  • Ensure that all personnel performing study activities execute procedures according to study protocol and may prepare for participant visits by scheduling appointments and preparing study charts.
  • Train and mentor students volunteering in the lab.
  • Use basic science knowledge to learn techniques/methods of the lab.
  • Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
  • Utilize in vivo models in experiments following experimental protocols, monitors animals and maintains health records in accordance with USDA and AALAC guidelines.
  • Assist in inoculating tumors, sacrifice and dissect animal remains as required.
  • Responsible for tissue bank inventory and management.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication and demonstrated ability to interact appropriately and professionally with surgical collaborators, study participants, and staff.
  • Ability to work both independently with modest direction and as part of a team.
  • Highly detail-oriented and be able to problem solve, prioritize responsibilities, and manage several priorities at once.
  • Data analysis and biostatistics-based skills encouraged but not required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with working in a clinical environment is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Windows and OSX and intermediate computer experience.

Starting Salary Range: $17.20 - $30.30 HRLY ($23.75/hour targeted salary; Commensurate w/exp.)
Employee group: Full Time
Schedule: 8:00am - 5:00pm, M-F
