The role

This role is a key member of the support team for the Bristol Centre for Supercomputing (BriCS) which operates the Isambard-AI, Isambard 3 and High-Performance Computing programmes. In this role you will be providing project management support for current and future projects within BriCS.

As our Project Manager, you'll play a vital role in supporting groundbreaking initiatives such as Isambard 3, Isambard-AI, and upcoming AI and High-Performance Computing programs. Imagine being at the forefront of innovation, providing essential project management support to our cutting-edge projects.

This role is not just about paperwork; it's about making an impact. You'll have the opportunity to facilitate the successful deliver of Isambard-AI, Isambard 3 and future projects that the BriCS team deliver. You’ll be the glue that holds our projects together, driving them forward and navigating the complexities of our environment with skill and determination.

Please note that due to operational needs, we are ideally looking for a candidate who can start relatively quickly.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for the successful delivery of projects within BriCS, including Isambard-AI and Isambard 3, as well as future projects within the Centre. 

In addition, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Project management support: develop, maintain and monitor project plans. Ensure adherence to University policy and good practice. 
  • Risk management: capture, log and analyse issues and develop contingency plans as needed. 
  • Financial Management: oversee procurement of equipment or services
  • Communication: manage reporting, including collation and dissemination of reports internally and to our external stakeholders. 
  • Executive support: coordinate, facilitate and participate in project meetings for boards, reviews and workshops where needed. 

You should apply if

You have experience of project management and implementation and are comfortable using your initiative in a fast-moving environment to solve unexpected problems. You should be adept at managing a wide range of activities, from budget setting to logistics, in order to plan, manage and respond to the changing needs of BriCS, and the projects within. 

In addition, you will ideally possess the following:

  • Project Management experience: Proven track record of extensive relevant experience in project management. 
  • Organisational Skills: Demonstrate excellent organisation. Thrive in dynamic environments, proficient at planning, prioritising, and meeting deadlines. Additionally, you must be proficient in managing diverse activities, from budgeting to logistics, to effectively respond to evolving needs of the projects. 
  • Communication: Ability to draft project reports and papers and to develop, implement, monitor and review project or business plans. Able to communicate effectively and credibly to staff, collaborators and funders at all levels. 
  • Work ethics: Be self-motivated, pro-active, innovative, and able to use initiative where appropriate. Be able to work autonomously as well as being part of a multidisciplinary team. 

This role is a hybrid role, with a mix of home and on-campus working.  

Additional information

Contract type: Open-ended with fixed funding until March 2029.

Work pattern: Full time or flexible work patterns from 0.8FTE will be considered. 

Grade: J

Salary: £41,732 - £46,974 per annum.

School/Unit: Bristol Centre for Supercomputing (BriCS), The Faculty of Science & Engineering.
