Offer Description
A tender is open for the attribution of 1 (one) Research Scholarship within the scope of the R&D project TwinCare (ref. 2025.01440.DT4ST), funded by Agência para a Reforma Tecnológica do Estado, I.P., under the following conditions:
Work Plan: The scholarship holder will carry out research activities focused on the development of artificial-intelligence-based signal processing models in the context of neuromuscular diseases. Activities include:
- Development of signal processing libraries and extraction of neuromuscular disease biomarkers;
- Collection of electrophysiological signals in real-world settings from people with neuromuscular disease;
- Scientific writing.
Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, under the scientific supervision of Professor Ana Londral. The contracting entity is NOVA.id.FCT – Association for Innovation and Development of FCT.
Fellowship duration: The scholarship will last 5 months, with an expected start date in October 2026. The fellowship contract may be renewed within the project’s duration.

Skills/Qualifications
Mandatory requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. For holders of a Bachelor’s degree obtained from foreign higher education institutions, registration of recognition of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions and registration of the conversion of the respective final classification to the Portuguese classification scale is requested, or alternatively, a declaration of honour from the candidate stating that they have obtained recognition of the equivalent foreign degree by the end of the application deadline.
Preferred factors: The selection will value candidates with interest and/or experience in the following areas:
- Demonstrated experience in machine learning and deep learning techniques applied to biomedical signal processing, as well as in signal acquisition in clinical settings;
- Experience in Python programming;
- Experience in biomedical signal processing for populations with neuromuscular diseases;
- Preference will be given to candidates who have completed (or are completing) their master’s thesis;
- Good organizational skills and teamwork ability;
- Good command of technical English, especially for reading scientific literature.

Benefits
Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The scholarship amount corresponds to €1,090.98, with reference to the scholarship values table directly attributed by FCT, I.P. in Portugal, with monthly payment by bank transfer.
Eligibility criteria
Selection criteria:
- Quality of CV and adequacy to the specific area of research referred to in this public notice (Grade from 1 to 20) (60%);
- Quality of the motivation letter and synopsis of the scientific path (Grade from 1 to 20) (30%);
- Quality of the Interview (Grade from 1 to 20) (10%).
The interview will be conducted for candidates with a score above 16 in the sum of criteria a) and b). Candidates will be ranked according to the total weighted score.

Form of advertising/notification of results: The evaluation results proposed by the jury will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, with access to the minutes and the provisional ranking list. After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or a hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT’s Board through the address coord1@novaidfct.pt.
