Research Scientist
Job Description
The research scientist position will perform daily research activities which broadly include cell culture, work with preclinical models, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, molecular biology and to support laboratory operations, the scientist in this position will meet with the Principle Investigator (PI) on a regular basis to review research protocols (prepared by the PI) and will be expected to carry out experiments to completion.
Responsibilities
- Experiments. Tasks may include techniques such as cell culture, tissue processing, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, bioluminescence and fluorescent imaging, RNA extraction, ELISA and other biochemical assays and preclinical tumor models
- Data Collection and Record Keeping. Provides the PI results of research outcomes with raw data, in image files, Microsoft Excel or Word files, PDF files, or other media. Raw data are expected to be well-organized for record keeping.
- Lab maintenance. Maintains up-to-date records of training certificates demonstrating compliance for all relevant oversight agencies governing research duties at USF (e.g. IACUC, IBC, EH&S).
- Assists the PI in General lab maintenance (maintaining incubators and microscope to assure working properly, maintain proper use of studylog computer and peripherals, assure lab supplies are at the appropriate level and not expired, assisting with lab inspectors, biohazard and regular trash disposal, repairs, etc.).
