The Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology within the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a Research Senior Technician to join the team. The Research Senior Technician will contribute to two projects which broadly focus on either zooplankton dynamics in Lake Erie or phosphorus cycling in streams. For the zooplankton project, the Research Senior Technician will count Bythotrephes and analyze chlorophyll a samples. For the phosphorus cycling projects, this technician will lead field surveys for our Pilot Watershed project and assist with field surveys associated with a project focused on the Maumee River. The Research Senior Technician will also be responsible for designing and implementing laboratory experiments measuring P uptake/release rates for stream sediment. They will analyze dissolved nutrient samples with a SEAL autoanalyzer and particulate carbon and nitrogen samples with an Exeter CHN analyzer. For both projects, the Research Senior Technician will be responsible for providing assistance and training to less experienced colleagues, and independently anticipating, recognizing, and solving routine issues, in addition to unusual or infrequent issues or questions.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelors degree in ecology or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience can be met by having 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree.

Desired Qualifications

Graduate-level training in ecology or related field. Two years of experience conducting research/management in ecology or water quality with a focus on any combination of the following: (1) enumerating invertebrate taxa, preferably zooplankton, and (2) researching or measuring aspects of aquatic nutrient biogeochemistry in the field and laboratory. Also required: basic statistical and data management skills and demonstrable ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience measuring phosphorus cycling; ability to run a nutrient autoanalyzer (e.g., SEAL, Latchet, Alpkem); proficiency with the R statistical language; experience conducting ecological or biogeochemical field research; ability to identify Great Lakes zooplankton.

The pay range for this job profile is $19.28 - $25.19. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
