Serve as a Research Specialist A/B in the Institute for Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism's Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Core (RMPC); carry out daily experiments for all activities in the RMPC; report to the Technical Director; learn and master experimental skills; design and perform metabolic studies in mouse models, and chemical and immunoassays on tissues; analyze assay results and communicate results to core clients; follow lab safety guidelines and procedures; assist in writing protocols.
Job Description
As Research Specialist A/B in the Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Core, take primary responsibility for execution of in vivo studies in rodent models for core clients. Clients will include labs from within and outside the University of Pennsylvania. This includes assisting in writing and following protocols, performing techniques properly, helping maintain equipment and data collection, and ensuring that basic data analysis is performed according to accepted practices.
Research Specialist A - Carry out daily experiments for all activities in the RMPC; report to the Technical Director; learn and master experimental skills; design and perform metabolic studies in mouse models, and chemical and immunoassays on tissues; analyze assay results and communicate results to core clients; follow lab safety guidelines and procedures; assist in writing protocols.
Research Specialist B - Expected to know everything required of a Research Specialist A, and also be more independent in all tasks. Masters a broader knowledge base to be able to assist in advanced data analysis and communicate directly with investigators as needed.
Qualifications
Research Specialist A - Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Research Specialist B - Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
