Job Description Summary

A research laboratory in the Department of Cancer Biology is seeking a Research Specialist to perform duties as a lab manager and researcher to support our effort in the areas of cancer cell metabolism and metabolic physiology. The position will involve general lab organization and management including maintaining lab inventories, ordering, and interfacing with Research Facilities staff. It will also involve supporting our research through mouse husbandry and colony maintenance. This position will support our research investigation and may involve various cell and molecular biology techniques. This position is ideal for a recent or upcoming college graduate with a degree in biology, biochemistry, or chemistry. Strong organization and interpersonal skills are required and some lab research experience is strongly preferred.

Position is contingent on grant funding.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Drive a research project (collect, analyze and interpret data, and present data at group meetings)
  • Help in the general running of the lab, including: ordering, receiving items, and maintaining lab organization
  • Assist with mouse colony maintenance and experiments as needed
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in biology, biochemistry, or a related field and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills required.
  • Lab research experience preferred.

Pay Range$44,500.00 - $50,000.00 Annual Rate

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
