Research Specialist A

Job Description Summary

The prospective candidate will work on translational research projects related to epilepsy and its interaction with other neurological disorders, studying the neuronal activation in response to stimuli. The candidate will also use animal behavior testing, molecular biology techniques, human and animal tissue slices, and histology to assess cellular and regional alterations in synaptic and signaling pathways genes and proteins.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform and support research projects as directed by principal investigator(s) and senior scientists.
• Maintain rodent animal colony and perform procedures with rodents.
• Maintain accurate records of experiments in a lab notebook format, and save data in suggested storage format.
• Attend regularly scheduled lab meetings, present experimental data, and participate in journal club presentations.
• Perform lab maintenance duties as assigned.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• The successful candidate must have exceptional organization and communication skills, ability to multi-task efficiently, work independently, collect data, and prepare lab reports. Experience with rodent handling and colony maintenance is preferred. Position is contingent upon funding. Prior experience with in vivo animal models and animal surgery, genotyping, protein and gene analyses such immunohistochemistry, western blots, and PCR is preferred. In addition, the Research Specialist A will assist in the general maintenance of the lab.
