The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a part-time (50%) Research Area Specialist Inter focusing on suicide prevention on 2 different studies. One is a 4-year NIH-funded study examining the signs of suicidal risk which takes place at the adult inpatient psychiatric settings at Michigan Medicine's University Hospital. The other is a 5-year VA-funded longitudinal clinical trial which takes place at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. This study will use an interventional app for Veterans who are experiencing a suicidal crisis.
In this role, you will work in an exciting environment which provides support for professional growth activities, opportunities to connect and collaborate with other research teams within the University of Michigan and the VA. Notably, they will be doing work that has a real impact on patients' lives.
- Conducting baseline and follow-up study assessments, as well as administering the intervention for a multi-site UM and/or VA-funded suicide prevention & intervention studies
- Data entry and processing tasks
- Attend study meetings and other administrative study needs
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree is required.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a related field.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Public Health (MPH), Social Work (MSW), Doctoral Degree or other management-related field (e.g., health administration) with experience working on a research study.
- Clinical and/or research experience with patients who have had recent suicidal thoughts and/or attempts
- Experience conducting clinical research interviews & assessments
- Comfort discussing sensitive topics with vulnerable populations
- Experience working in emergency departments and/or psychiatric inpatient units
- Ability to work independently with minimum direction and seek guidance when appropriate
This is a hybrid schedule requiring 20 hours/week, flexibility needed for the late afternoons, early evenings, and occasional weekends as enrollment dictates.
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
